This is our core group of exhibiting artists, all of whom have had their work highlighted in New American Gallery juried or invitational shows. Each of these artists displays his or her work in a gallery page that changes periodically as old paintings are sold and new ones are added. For each artist you will also find current contact information that makes it easy for you to inquire about existing work or commissioned pieces. We invite you to visit this corner of the Gallery often since we add new work and new artists on a regular basis.

The nine paintings you’ll find in this current exhibition are the work of a superb draftsman whose impeccable eye for color enables her to transform the commonplace into the timeless. Thomas Valenti

A master of realistic urban landscapes in both oil and watercolor, Thomas Valenti believes that “the artist has within his or her power the ability to allow people to see and appreciate those things normally taken for granted.” In this current exhibition you'll see why over the past 25 years he has received numerous awards and honors, most recently acceptance into the “Contemporary Realism 2005” exhibition held at the Cavalier Galleries in Manhattan (a show which featured only five of the 600 artists who submitted work for judging), and why his work hangs in the permanent collections of Rutgers University, Hoffman-LaRoche, and the Lipton Tea Company. Steven J. White

Steven J. White has learned that great paintings often spring from exceedingly humble origins: the weathered siding of an old farmhouse; a boarded-up door in a dark alley; or a quilt of late-day shadows nestled on an icy pond. As our small collection of his work demonstrates, this self-taught artist has become a master at transforming the ordinary into the memorable. Although he generally paints near his home in Lansdale , Pennsylvania , Steven's reputation has been growing rapidly in recent years, and in 2003 alone his paintings appeared in 18 juried shows and exhibitions. He is a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society as well as a member of the Philadelphia Water Color Society, the Perkiomen Valley Art Center, and the Greater Norristown Art League.  His works may be found in the following galleries:

Fran Wood

Fran Wood has won national and regional awards both for her plein-air oil landscapes and for her oils and watercolors of people in everyday settings. Her recent awards include second-place honors in The New American Gallery’s 2004 national watercolor competition, first prize in oils at the All-Island Art Show on Martha’s Vineyard, and a Watercolor Magic magazine award for her painting “Appreciating Sargent,” which was selected for the National Watercolor Association’s year-long traveling exhibition in 2000. While Fran’s paintings represent widely diverse subjects, they share a common emphasis on capturing dramatic light, as our current exhibition reveals. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, she has also studied art at the Centro d’Arte Verrocchio in Casole d’Elsa, Italy, and at the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Phoenix, Arizona.

Russ Johnson

With rare exception, Russ Johnson paints what he finds within a day's drive of his home in Princeton Junction, New Jersey. And whether he's studying the ruins of an old barn in Pennsylvania or the play of light on a Maine marsh, he believes that less is generally more – and that successful paintings come from editing reality down to a strong design. For certain subjects, including a number of the tree studies found in his “Weathered Wood” series, he relies on a patient drybrush technique mastered 500 years ago by Albrecht Dürer.

To learn more about Russ Johnson’s work or to add one of his paintings to your collection, please contact him through his online gallery, www.rhjart.com.  For a musical tour of some recent paintings, visit his exhibition on YouTube.
